At times every successful person will be required to do some Self-Promotion. This self-promotion may be part of the reason for their success. I have been publishing on the Internet for a number of years and have limited the self-promotion on these sites. Please forgive me as I do a bit of Shameless Self-Promotion by posting links to some of the other places where I spend my time.

Technology Tips for SMB’s. I have spend many years working with technology and my first blog was Technology Tips for Small Businesses. These are posts that will help assist the small to mid-sized business owner or office manager to better understand the technology that the company use everyday. From this I published the book Technology Tips for Small Business. The book was a collection of my first year’s tips and some of them may longer be 100% accurate, but I do think they are still helpful.

I have been working on a site that i called Yesterday’s Coffee – Reflections on Yesterday. At the beginning of November I will be joined by two friends to relaunch the site now called Reheated Coffee – Reflections On Yesterday. Some of the older posts from here will be republished there. We hope that you will drop by.

Delmarva Town Crier. I reside on the Delmarva Peninsula and at times it seems as if the news of the peninsula doesn’t get around the region very much. The purpose of this is to try to pass information along in the old tradition of the local Town Crier shouting out Public Notices and Proclamations. Once a week a Feature Article about the region will be published as well as listings of common events.

Delmarva Town Crier is one of the sites that make up the ShoreToBeFun.com network. ShoreToBeFun.com the place to go for information about the Events, the History and , the Heritage of the Delmarva Peninsula.

Delmarva Gifts. This is an online store that works in conjunction with ShoreToBeFun.com for unique gifts related to the area. There are designs that are on hats, T-Shirts and other items related to each of the Counties that make up the Delmarva Peninsula as well for each of the incorporated towns. There is also the chance for people to request those designs to be changed to relate to their hometown on the peninsula.

MoreThanSwitchingOffTheLights.com. My foray into the Environmental movement. The site gives information and reports on ways to help save and conserve energy. Saving and Conserving Energy will not only assist in saving the environment, but it can also save money.

StevenGAtkinson.net. My personal website that can direct you to any of the above locations and any others that I have but I did not promote on this page.

November 26, 2009 marks the third anniversary for 6 Things To Consider. Even if it comes from no one else I will wish myself and my readers a Happy Anniversary.

With today actually being Thanksgiving, I have plenty to be thankful for. But that was yesterdays post.

I am also going to take a break and will return on Monday with new 6 Things To Consider. So until then, be happy, healthy and wise.

Advertisement:
From now until December 15, I will be cutting the price at the 6 Things to Consider online store.

Also if shopping at Amazon consider using this link for your purchase.

The ‘Hollywood’ sign has turned into a major landmark for the area, but when it was installed on June 13, 1923 it was just an advertising sign for a new housing development in Los Angeles.

Real estate developers Woodruff and Shoults called their development “Hollywoodland” and advertised it as a “superb environment without excessive cost on the Hollywood side of the hills.”

When dedicated the sign there were 13 letters each standing at 50 feet high spelling out the development’s name, Hollywoodland. It was never thought that the sign would be permanent, but it has become a symbol for Los Angeles. The original sign’s cost was 21,000 dollars.

The sign had 4,000 20 watt light bulbs as well as a giant white dot (35 feet in diameter, with 20-watt lights on the perimeter) below the sign to catch the eye. The lights on the sign blinked at night first “Holly” then “wood” then “land,” and finally punctuated by a giant period.

‘Land’ was removed from the sign when a 1949 contract between the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and the Parks Department to repair and rebuild the sign stipulated that the sign should represent the area and not the development.

In 1978 after the sign had fallen into deterioration it again was restored. Through the efforts and donations of many including rocker Alice Cooper a quarter million dollar project replaced the letters with those made of steel. These letter were 5 feet shorter than the original and are 45 feet tall.

The 1970s is the decade that I came of age. As 1970 began I was a 11 year old boy looking towards my teens and as the decade ended I turned 21.

My love of music of the 1970s was the reason that last year, on 6 Things to Consider, we had lists for the most popular songs of the 1970s. Also see 70sMusicRevisited.com.

This year beginning this weekend, on the third weekend of the month 6ThingsToConsider.com will be listing of the top 6 movies of the year.

It’s not going to be a deeply researched cause, since as with almost any thing that called popular, it all depends on what you use as reference point. For movies, it’s usually their gross revenue, which since not all ticket prices are the same, makes for a questionable point.

Just as we did with the music, we will not be doing the years in order, but in a random order selected by me. The first year will be 1977 selected for a number of reasons.

Perhaps the primary reason for 1977 as the first year featured is that 1977 had the release of the most popular movie of the decade and one of the most popular movies of all time. A movie that is also my all time favorite.
