It’s New Year’s Eve and getting close to midnight. You are thinking that it would be great to go outside and make a little noise, but you don’t have a noise maker other than the pistol you have tucked away for protection. And it makes a good noise maker. That’s when you decided to do a stupid thing.
You take the gun outside and innocently point the gun in the air and at the appointed time fire off a round. It feels fun, but you have just done a very stupid thing. The bullet you shot in the air has to come down. Maybe it’ll come down in someone’s yard. Or …
On New Year’s Eve in the town of Elkton, Maryland, someone decided to do just that. The bullet did come down and hit 10-year old Aaliyah Boyer in the head. She died from her injury yesterday on January 3, 2013.
A little girl’s life gone just because some idiot decided to fire his gun in the air to celebrate. The only good thing I have heard to come out of this is that the girl’s family decide to donate her organs so others could live.
What makes one think it’s alright to shoot a gun into the air on celebrations such as the 4th of July and New Year’s. It’s way to common of an occurrence. One that isn’t accepted in society.
Then again in life it seems as if many people do things stupid things without thinking through what could happen. Sure, more than likely that shot in the air will come harmlessly down, but when it doesn’t, it’s tragic.
