Best Bond Songs

By | Nov 11, 2012

The theme songs for the Bond movies are almost as recognizable as the famous lines such as “Bond, James Bond and “Shaken, not stirred”. And the new song by Adele will become just as familiar. In a lot of ways it brings one back to the early Bonds and Shirley Bassey who sang three of them. “Goldfinger” (perhaps the best of the themes), “Diamond are Forever” and “Moonraker”.

Three of the movies had instrumentals over the opening credits. The best of these come from “Dr No” the standard Bond theme. The others were the second film “From Russia With Love” and “On Her Majesty Secret Service”. “From Russia with Love” did have a vocal for the song at the end of the movie, while Louie Armstrong’s “We Had All The Time in the World” closes “On her Majesty Secret Service”

Rock Songs have also been used in many of the movies. The best is comes from Paul McCartney and “Live and Let Die”, while one of the most forgettable ones come from “The Living Daylights” done by the 80’s group Ah-Ha.

Another of the better songs is one of the few whose title is not the movie title. That comes from “The Spy Who Loved Me” with Carly Simon singing “No One Does it Better”

Many of the songs are done by female singers, but one of the best from a male artist is Tom Jones’ “Thunderball”.

Which one is the worst? That just may be Garbage’s “The World is Not Enough”.
