2. MGM – Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Film studio formed with the merger of three companies: Metro Picture Corporation, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation, and Louis B. Mayer Pictures. Ironically Goldwyn Picture Corporation was named after the last names of Samuel Goldfish, and Edgar and Archibald Selwyn.
3. Nabisco – Began as The National Biscuit Company, changed in 1971 to Nabisco.
4. Osram – From osmium and wolfram.
5. Psion – The UK computer company was named by its founder, South Africa-born Dr David Potter, from Potter Scientific Instruments Or Nothing.
6. Qantas – its original name, Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services.
